2Stone friends

Artisan pizza & flat bread connoisseurs.

Hi, all,
Rank beginner, here. Never made a pizza, and am only kicking tires. Trying not to drool over all the wonderful pizza pics.

I am very confused with available information on the Bayou Classic, and would appreciate info from anyone who has experience.

At most sites like:

http://bayouclassicdepot.com/sq14_propane_burner.htm

The SQ14 seems to use a 10psi regulator and seems to provide 55,000, BTU.

But at Home Depot:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?s...

It says it uses a 15 psi regulator, and in the store, the info on the shelf says it provides 150,000 BTU. (No actual hardware or box to examine, of course.)

I'm thinking maybe Home Depot has a special hi powered version of this burner. Does anyone know what the truth is?
Are there two types of SQ14 or are the specs just full of mistakes?

Which would be better for 2Stone Oven. Hotter is better, right? I am a char fan so want high heat.

Also, I have seen extension legs for the SQ14:

http://www.shopperschoice.com/item_item_397243_source_froogle.html

Would they be stable enough to support the 2Stone Pizza Oven, and would the 25inch height be sufficient? It would be nice if it worked, as it would eliminate the need to protect a table from the heat. Maybe if I added cinder blocks?

Thanks very much,
mush

Mush,

The differences you are talking about are confusing and I haven't really gotten to the bottom of it. I'm assuming they are the same burner and the box does say up to 155,000 BTU so maybe thats where the difference comes inn. At any rate the oven is especially made for that burner and takes into consideration the placement of the burner in the frame , the actual frame size, brackets that hold the baffle we supply and the size and the flame configuration of that specific burner.
As far as the legs go I think there is a user I know of who may have them. I'll try to find out for you.
below is a picture of the actual box with the description of the burner.

Thanks, Willard,
Since the box says 10 PSI I presume the actual regulator you have is 10 PSI, and that that regulator kicks out the required BTUs to get the oven up near 1000 deg. F, even with large stone.

Thanks again for your help,

Yes...It would be nice if they would be a little more consistent in their ratings, but I can tell you for the money it really does put out the heat. It also has a wide burner which is better than some that have an intense small flame. The other nice thing is that if you do decide to use the burner for something else like turkey frying or just to run a pan you have it for that too. -wg

By the way thanks for posting the links to the suppliers

Mush,

After going through the links you posted I see some more of the discrepancy's you mention. First, I think the information has not neen updated on the Home Depot site, since the one's we have gotten all have braided hoses and are not the 15 PSI regulators that I saw. Second, I think if we get enough heat out of the 10 PSI that is better, because I'm assuming it would also be more fuel efficient.

mush, I got some info on the legs from some one who tried them, here is what he said:

quote:
My take on the legs is that they work fine but after putting them on they only raise the oven a few inches, maybe 6 inches, even though they are long before assembly. I really think they needed to be 8-12 inches longer. You can't sit on a standard sitting chair and see in and monitor the bake at that height. So, my take is the legs are not long enough to do the trick. Better but not enough. I wish you would copy the design and come up with a longer, maybe adjustable version. -MWTC

Can the Bayou burners work with Natural Gas instead of Propane? I searched on the internet and it appears they have burners for Nat gas. I'm thinking of upgrading from the Pizza grill to the oven? Is there an upgrade for the larger pizzza grill to the larger oven? Also, if I will need to go propane, will the bayou sq14 work with those mini propane canisters?

thanks

Hey Lloyd,

No the bayou burner is high pressure and would not work as it is. I am half way through testing burners for natural gas that can also be used for propane by changing out the tips. They are more money and may need more distance from the pan..... I'll see (for the Pro and Inferno right now)
Otherwise the SQ -14 is pretty hard to beat $$ for BTU output.
Yes you can upgrade from the 15" to the oven......it is not priced out on the site, but is about $25.00 more.
Don't know about the mini canisters....I think they are intended for at least the small LP tanks that cost $16-20 to refill (or maybe a little more where you are)

I just don't want to be bothered dealing with, storing and refilling propane tanks..so thought that if a natural gas model was available I could just pull off the hose to my grill and attach the bayou burner to my natural gas line... just a thought!!
